Job Title: Locum/Relief Worker
Reports to: Team Leaders
Location Limerick City & Ennis Co. Clare
 

Job Purpose:

The purpose of this job is to provide support, care and case management to clients residing in Mid-West Simon services.

To help ensure Mid-West Simon Community provides high quality, effective housing support services. This will involve using a Trauma Informed Approach to achieve best possible outcomes for service users.

 

Main duties & Responsibilities:

Locum/Relief Worker post will:

  • Contribute to the continuity of service provision in the service, including handovers, diary, incident reports etc.
  • To be vigilant in relation to health and safety and welfare risks in the workplace and bring concerns to the attention of team leaders.
  • Maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the service.
  • Ensure laundry systems are efficient.
  • Ensure the Health, Safety and Welfare of clients is always prioritised within services.
  • Participate in routine maintenance, cleaning, and health and safety inspections, in line with operational procedures and standards.
  • Liaise with other members of the team regarding the running of the service.
  • Complete clear, concise records as required.
  • To undertake any other such duties commensurate with the role that may be assigned by the team leaders or manager.

Administration

  • To maintain all recording systems as directed.
  • To adhere to all policies and procedures relating to financial control in the projects.
  • To ensure that all communication and administrative policies and procedures are followed.
  • To prepare reports if required.

Training

  • To attend and participate in training courses if required.
  • To identify areas of future training need

Health and Safety

  • To act as appointed First Aid person if required.
  • To ensure a safe, healthy, and secure environment for all employees, clients, and visitors within the service
  • To carry out all duties with reasonable care.
  • To ensure that designated fire procedures are carried out.
  • To address actions arising from Health & Safety Inspections

General

  • To represent Mid West Simon Community at meetings, conferences, seminars and other events.
  • To project a positive image of the Simon Community at all times.
  • To maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to staff, volunteers, and general Simon Community Business.
  • To be aware of and adhere to all Mid West Simon Community Policies and Procedures currently in operation.
  • To attend staff and other meetings as appropriate
  • To provide support to volunteers and students if required
  • All other duties as may be from time to time requested by management, and which are consistent with your job and responsibilities.
 

Person specification:

 

The Ideal Candidate will have

Education

  • Third-level qualification in social care or a similar area, or working towards a degree in similar area.

Experience, Attributes, Skills, Abilities and Knowledge

  • Knowledge and understating of homelessness and the needs of single homeless people.
  • Ability to work in non-judgemental and respectful manner with individuals from different backgrounds.
  • Understand the physical and mental health and substance misuse needs that may affect those in homelessness.
  • The desire to support homeless and vulnerable people to develop their own resources and make positive changes.
  • Basic understanding of how to provide advice and case-work services to vulnerable people.
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour, set clear boundaries, and remain calm and effective under pressure
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a changing environment where sound judgement is required.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • Have an understanding of the importance of confidentiality in relation to work.
  • Be computer literate with a sound knowledge of Word, Excel and email.
  • Share in and work to the values and ethos of Mid West Simon Community.
  • Recognises the need to be flexible.
  • Be available to work days, nights and weekend shifts.
  • Possessing a valid and full clean drivers’ licence would be an advantage.
