PURPOSE: To prepare and provide food supports to individuals accessing the Mid West Simon Food banks in Limerick, Clare and North Tipperary


ï Commitment to supporting diverse individuals in a community engagement setting. ï Ability to express compassion and empathy for those living on a low income. ï Excellent customer service skills. ï Strong interpersonal and communication skills. ï Basic understanding of English language

ï Ability to lift up to 20 lbs of weight several times during the shift. ï Good mobility required for bending and reaching etc. ï Ability and willingness to work in a team environment.

REPORTS TO: Foodbank & Distribution Coordinator.

RESPONSIBILITIES: ï Distribute food items to individuals accessing the food support program. ï Prepare food distribution room – sort and stack items in an orderly manner on the shelves. ï Ensure product quality through proper sorting techniques ï Ensure food distribution warehouse and all storage space is clean and tidy each day. ï Ensure the sorting area is safe – maintain clear walkways and exits. ï Unload donated items from the vehicle upon arrival. ï Use correct body mechanics while lifting heavy items. ï Ensure personal hygiene and cleanliness. ï Ensure all interactions with individuals are maintained with confidentiality except where required by law to report.

LOCATION:  Unit 36, Eastlink Business Park, Ballysimon, Limerick.

ORIENTATION & TRAINING: Program-specific orientation provided by the Foodbank & Distribution Coordinator followed by on-the-job training with the Foodbank Operative. On a daily basis, one-on-one mentoring with experienced volunteers will be provided. Attend periodic in-service education sessions when offered.

TIME COMMITMENT: A minimum of one half-day per week, Monday to Friday. Shifts vary based on the programs/activities happening that particular day. All volunteers as asked for a commitment period of at least SIX months.
